Built of stacked timbers, like a log cabin-
The house had been in the ownership of one family, the Longs, since Lincoln was President, and the historical signficance appealed to Chupp and Butler.

Butler, a contractor by trade, took up the challenge of renovating the buildings. He recalls that it became a bigger, more expensive project than he'd thought, because he literally had to carve into the wood to add electricity, plumbing and heating to bring the house up to code. But he is pleased with the results.

Empty Nest Sale
barn full of stuff left when children grow up & leave

When the last of their six children had moved out, Mike & Lynn Butler knew they had to find a good home for all the things they left behind.

Much of it had already ended up in the big red barn adjacent to their home on North River Road, and a weekend barn sale would help to pass on their unneeded items to new owners. Some of the more unusual items included a children's Challenger ride, like those in mall lobbies and a former soapbox derby car.

Customers came, as much curious about the old barn and house that had stood until Spring of 2000, on the opposite side of the road along the river. Jeff Chupp, who developed the riverbank with modern homes, moved the house and barn to its new location.
